Tim Frederick just posted about Prose on his book blog Baby Got Books. Thanks Tim!
Also, just got back from AWP and am only now getting back around to some work. I had to grade papers and get school-caught-up before I could actually get back to some writing/research.
I'm researching all this fun stuff about the geology of the Sierra Nevada Mountains for "The Lake." I don't know if I mentioned that already, that the novel-in-progress is likely going to be called "The Lake". Maybe. That's what I'm going with for now. I'm at a stage where I'm culling and synthesizing, putting the draft together as I imagine I'd like it to be presented to an actual reader. In other words, it's starting to take shape. But I'm adding these sections that are like nonfiction, i.e., all about the geology, the flora and fauna of the region of the lake, etc.
So I wrote that silly post about Denver. But, seriously, Denver was a weird town. Weird in a Midwestern Christian Totalitarian kind of way, like I imagine that woman from Jesus Camp must be the Denver city mayor, or the governor of Colorado. "The problem with this country is that we have to give freedom to everyone equally." Johannes Goransson told me a story about the cops stopping him while he was walking down the street, and asked where he was going. He said, "I'm just walking down the street." The cop insisted on knowing where he was going. It was an uncomfortable place.
